The Alumni committee is a small committee, with only 5 members. Our purpose is to maintain contact with the alumni, the graduated students from the Guild. We want the alumni to feel just as welcome at the Guild as they did back when they were students! By arranging “sittningar”. Pubs and lunch lectures we also try to create a connection between alumni and the current students.
The Alumni Committee has evolved much during the last two years and there is great potential for what
the committee can become. We do not see the fact that the committee is so small as a disadvantage, but the opposite! We get to know each other well, which makes the work more fun! Being a part of the Alumni Committee gives great experience on how the Guild works today, and also how it worked in the past!
Head of the Alumni Committee
Head of the Alumni Committee
As Head of the Alumni Committee you hear much about the education from the alumni’s perspective, which gives great insight to our own education. Like all other Committee Heads, you should be prepared that the work with The Council takes up a certain amount of time. Meetings and the handover to the next year's committee at the end of the year, takes time also. As Head of the Alumni Committee it is very fun to see how happy the alumni are to give back and share their experience to others. Also, many students appreciate hearing about their experiences and wisdom.
As Head of the Alumni Committee, I make sure that the work within the committee is carried through, for example I plan meetings and help my committee host events. I’m also responsible for keeping the main contact with the alumni. This happens mostly through email, which means I’m also responsible for the alumni database, with all their email addresses. I do, for example, send out mass emails with information for the alumni this way.
As Alumni Contacts, we work to make life easier for the Head of the Committee. The work we do varies from week to week, sometimes we write emails, sometimes we order posters or are responsible for food for an upcoming event. But our most important job is to help maintain the contact between the Guild and the alumni. Since the committee is so small, we get to evolve on many different levels.
As Alumni Contact you learn a lot about planning and organizing different events. During events is when we get to establish contact with the alumni the most, as the primary contact through email is mostly handled by the Head of the Alumni Committee. The best thing about this being an Alumni Contact is getting to decide on how you want to host events, and also hearing the alumni's stories and tips.
Head of the Mentorship Program
As Heads of the Mentorship program, our primary task is to run the Mentorship program, a program where current students are paired up with alumni to share experiences. They are paired together based on a questionnaire they have filed in, where we take both interests and experiences into consideration, when deciding the pairs. For us two these are parts of the year where the committee work takes up a bit of time, both when the Mentorship program is started and when it’s ending. During the rest of the year we help the committee with it’s work, planning events etc.
In the Alumni Committee you evolve a lot as both a person and a Guild member, as we discuss and make a lot of decisions together in the committee during the year. Being one of the Heads of the Mentorship program gives you great insight on how to communicate with adults in a work life environment, as well as how events are planned. Being part of the Alumni Committee can also extend your network and maybe even create future work opportunities.
