What do we do in the Safety Committee?

We in the Safety Committee work to ensure that all members feel safe and welcome here at the K-guild! We take care of our Guild members, our premises and, and our environment. We value and work to ensure the psychosocial well-being of the Guild members, and make sure our student and teaching facilities are safe and functioning according to our needs. Additionally, we are the ones making sure that the K-guild stays eco-labeled with the “Sektionsgrodan” label, by helping the other committees with their environmental work.

In the Safety Committee you learn much about different support resources available to us students,
and how to work to promote well-being and equality treatment. This means that we do everything from supporting students in difficult situations, to organizing events around important equality issues. Examples of held events are beading bracelets to support Transgender Awareness Week and arranging interviews with female role models and a movie night in connection with the International Women’s day.

Head of Safety

As Head of Safety I am the leader of the Committee, which means I have the overall responsibility for the committee’s operations and economy, make sure the work moves forward as well as doing the administrative work associated with being head of the committee. I plan and lead our meetings, make a budget and make sure that it is followed, and coordinate the committee with the rest of the Guild by being part of the committee board. I also have the overall responsibility for the events organized by the committee, and perform much of the administrative work such as bookings, sending posters for print, and making sure that events follow the budget.

As head of a committee you are expected to put in time and effort into you volunteer position. In return, you will learn about leadership and to take responsibility for a group, planning communication and teamwork. Even if you will not work as much with the specific tasks of the different work areas in the Committee, you will learn a lot abou the areas that the members of the Committee work with, as well. The Safety Committee is a small and cosy Committee, and to be Head of Safety is perfect for someone who hasn’t been head of a committee before.

Equality Officer

As Equality Officers it is our role to ensure the psychosocial well-being of the Guild members and work with equality treatment issues at the Guild. We have professional secrecy and students can always turn to us if they need support or feel they have been treated badly in any way. We know what support resources are available to us at LTH, Lund University, and generally in Lund, and can often help students get in contact with the right people to handle their issue further. As Equality Officers we are also part of the Equality Collegiate at TLTH, where the Equality Officers from the Guilds at LTH meet approximately once every second week.

As Equality Officer you get to make a difference for real, and something that is often taken up as one of the best parts of being an Equality Officer is that you get to work with improving how at home people feel at the Guild. It is incredibly important to make sure people feel safe in their education and at school, and can always feel confident in being themselves. You also get to learn more about how to work proactively with equality treatment, and how to work with the support resources and tools available to us students.

Safety Officer

As the Safety Officer it is my responsibility to make sure our student facilities are safe and meet the requirements during official safety checks. I also attend safety checks twice a year in the public areas and storage facilities at Kemicentrum - which is way more exciting than one might think! I am also a part of the HSE committee (Health, Environment and Safety Committee) where I represent the students' opinion among the Kemicentrum Prefects, chief safety representatives, environmental coordinators and administrative managers.

As Safety Officer I have professional secrecy according to Swedish law, and I often collaborate with the Equality Officers in issues concerning the well-being of the Guild members. As Safety Officer you get to make a difference for real, and something that is often taken up as one of the best parts of being Safety Officer is that you get to work with improving how at home people feel at the Guild. In addition, you learn a lot about the management of Kemicentrum and how that works, and you get experience of what it means to be a safety representative, something that can be a valuable experience for the future.

Environment Coordinator

As the Environment Coordinator I am the contact for “Sektionsgrodan” (Literal translation: The Guild Frog), the eco-label from Lund Sustainable Engineers. In order to keep our eco-label we must continuously improve our environmental work - something that I as the Environment Coordinator work to ensure! I keep track of what is needed to receive the Sektionsgrodan, and help the committees improve their environmental work to fulfill the requirements. As Environment Coordinator you have an unique chance to influence the Guild’s environmental work.
