What do we do in the Student Council?

The Student Council is responsible for monitoring the courses that are taught to the students at the K-guild and they are the link between students, teachers, and the Programme management team. We make sure there are course representatives in all courses, motivate the Guild members to fill out their course experience questionnaires (CEQs), review the CEQ-answers and organise CEQ-meetings for all courses. The reason there are Guilds at LTH is predominantly to operate study monitoring activities. It can therefore be argued that SrBK is the Guild's most important committee. As a result, SrBK organises its own board meetings a few times a year. If there is something that is not working with your education, if there is a problem or something regarding the education needs to be changed, it is SrBK’s job to represent the students' opinions. If you have any questions regarding the education or if something is not working- don’t hesitate to contact us, we know how to help!

With us in SrBK you get the chance to make a difference! The work we do makes a change for everyone taking the courses and our whole education. You also get the chance to be in contact with teachers and the Programme management team as well as insight into our courses and how the education is structured, but above all you get to learn how much we can influence the courses and what tools can be used to maintain the students’ rights! All positions in SrBK gain valuable experiences in expressing opinions in a constructive and meaningful way and in taking responsibility for representing the opinions of others on important issues.

Head of the Student Council

As the Head of the Student Council I am the Committee leader for SrBK and responsible for the Guilds monitoring of the education, the committee’s activity and economy. I lead SrBK’s lunch meetings and Board meetings, make the budget and make sure it is being followed and coordinate the Committee’s activities with the rest of the Guild. As the Head of the Student Council I am a part of the program management team where I represent the opinions of the students. I am also a part of the SrX, which is a collegiate for everyone who is the Head of the Student Council at all Guilds at LTH. As the Head of the Student Council, I am the link between the students and the teachers, and it is to me the teachers or the program management team turn to if they want the students opinions on different questions regarding the education.

The Head and the Vice of the Student Council cooperate a lot, and would usually distribute their tasks between each other. For example, the Vice would handle all internal contact within the Committee and with the Guild (lead the lunch meetings, attend the Committee Council meetings and Board meetings) while the Head would handle all external contact (like with the program management team and SrX). The work distribution is decided each year between the two of them, and can look different each year.

As the Head of the Student Council you are expected to put down a lot of time on the position but you gain a lot of experience within leadership and responsibilities for a group, planning, communication and cooperation. As the Head of the Student Council you also receive valuable training presenting opinions to the program management team of our education and courses.

VICE HEAD OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL

As the Vice Head of the Student Council, I am responsible for the internal work within the Committee. I lead the Student Council’s weekly lunch meetings and help with coordinating the Committee’s activities with the rest of the Guild. When it is time for course evaluations, I am responsible for making sure that the Student Council monitors the CEQ-responses and that the course representatives have all the information they need for the CEQ-meetings. When the Head isn’t available you are expected to take over their responsibilities in the meantime, like attending SrX-meetings or leading the Student Council’s Protocol meetings.

As the Vice Head of the Student Council you get to cooperate a lot with the Head of the Student Council, and you will often distribute your workload between each other.

As the Vice Head of the Student Council, you work together with the other members of the Student Council and learn how to be a good leader for a smaller group. You also get a perfect opportunity to improve your planning skills and structure your own and others’ work, as there are many emails and deadlines to keep track of. You also receive valuable training in presenting others’ opinions to the management team of our education and courses.

MEMBER OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL IN CHARGE OF FOOD SCIENCE

As a member of the Student Council in charge of the bachelor’s programme in Food Science you monitor the bachelor’s programme in Food Science and are to an extent independent from the rest of the Student Council. Member of the Student Council in charge of Food Science is a unique position at the Guild since it is exclusively intended for Food Science students.

We are our own small group within the Student Council, and it is not expected of us to always be at lunch meetings or the events that the committee participates in. However, we often help with planning and holding events, for example to get people to fill in the CEQs or carry out surveys that are related to our education. Our focus is on engaging our classmates in the study monitoring at the Guild. We also get the chance to be active as student representatives in the Programme management team of Food Science.

The three members of the Student Council in charge of Bachelor level are together responsible for the monitoring of the education on Bachelor level. We communicate with the teachers responsible for the courses to make sure there are course representatives in every course and work as a support for the representatives as well as the link between them and the teachers. The three members of the committee are in charge of Master level monitor the education on the B and K-programmes’ Master levels. We communicate with the teachers responsible for the courses to make sure there are course representatives for all courses and evaluate the courses in a good way and work as a support for the representatives as well as the link between them and the teachers. When the time comes for the course evaluations, we are the ones who review the CEQ answers and make sure that the course representatives have all the information they need before the CEQ meetings. Together with the rest of the committee we plan events, e.g to make people fill in the CEQ’s or do surveys that relate to our education. We also help organise the Master-Mingle before the students in year 3 choose their masters, together with the Programme management team and the Student Counsellors.

ETTAN, BETTAN & LETTAN

Ettan, Bettan and Lettan are probably the Guild’s most special positions as only students in year 1 can apply for them. Ettan is someone at the K-programme, Bettan is someone from the B-programme and Lettan is someone from the Food Science programme. They are not chosen at the Fall Guild-meeting but at one of the Student Board’s meetings earlier. The positions imply that you are a part of SrBK during that fall and you are the course representative in all courses during the fall in year one. An important job is to help the Student Council keep an extra eye on the courses in year one and to report if any support is needed. The position is very important for everyone in year one and being Ettan, Bettan or Lettan is also a perfect way of trying out being part of a committee and an active member of the Guild.
